An old Devon legend says that the tiny white ‘thunder flowers’ that sometimes grow on the thatched cottage roofs and ancient Dartmoor landscape can ward off both lightning and witchcraft – both handy qualities for any gin we’re sure you’ll agree.

The Makers
Thunderflower Distillery was launched in 2018 by Anicca & Dom in the heart of Devon.
We run a custom-built 200 litre pot still, developing our own recipes and lovingly crafting our spirits every step of the way, from the design of the labels, foraging botanicals, and distilling & bottling.
We still number and sign each bottle we produce with pride.
In 2024 we opened our doors to our new sustainable distillery in Mid-Devon, just north of Exeter where we run tours and tastings and make our gin.

Our Process
Vapour-Infusion
Rather than steep and boil the botanicals we only use vapour infusion to extract flavour.
Our botanicals are placed in a chamber that lies in the path of the alcohol vapour preserving the delicate flavours.
One-Shot Distillation
Our ‘one-shot’ distillation run means that apart from water for dilution, the resulting spirit isn’t altered beyond the vapour interacting with the botanicals.
Pure Dartmoor Spring Water
We use pure, natural spring water drawn at source from deep under Dartmoor to dilute the gin to the perfect strength before bottling.

The Taste
We love complex, layered gins, and so our recipes aim to tease as many of your taste senses as possible – sweet, sour, umami (savoury), bitter – and salty is where food matching comes in.

We strive to produce the best quality spirits possible with no compromise on ingredients or production methods.
As a business we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment wherever we can.
Our distillery is powered by our own solar panels which store surplus energy in batteries for our distillation runs.
We have a closed-loop chiller system powered by solar to ensure we don’t waste valuable drinking water as cooling water in the distillation process.
We use eco-packaging for our products and offer refill stations at our distillery.

Thunderflower Gin The Fine Spirit of Devon / Devon Dry Gin
This is our original London Dry gin, and was developed to offer a contemporary, complex flavour with a spicy finish.
Despite the name, Thunderflower is not a floral dominant gin but it is more herbaceous and spicy in nature.
Aromatic, bold sage and heather combines with piney, peppery juniper and spices for a distinctive and enjoyably dry and savoury profile with great depth of flavour.
The gin is grounded in the earthiness of Angelica Root and liquorice, which also brings a natural sweetness.
Spicy notes coming from Green and Black Cardamom, Pink Peppercorn are wrapped in a blanket of warming Cassia Bark. A touch of citrus from Lemon Grass and light floral notes from Coriander Seed, Elderflower and Heather complete the balanced picture.
With such a full-bodied flavour profile our recommended garnish is simply a slice of lemon, and a plain tonic, which will compliment the savoury notes nicely.

Crisp English apples and a blend of warming spices are distilled with citrus and carefully chosen botanicals to create sweet mulled apple flavours in balance with a juniper finish.
Our botanical flavours are extracted through delicate vapour infusion in a one-shot distillation run with only pure Dartmoor spring water added to dilute the final spirit.
Serve on ice with premium tonic water with a slice of apple to garnish, use in your favourite gin based cocktail for a new twist, or enjoy neat on the rocks as a sipping gin.

Elder Bay Blush Gin

Thunderflower Gin The Fine Spirit of Devon / Elder Bay
Elder Bay Blush is a delightfully refreshing craft-gin that celebrates flavours found in Devon.
Combining two gin making techniques, we first distill a London Dry Gin using vapour infusion to marry piney Juniper with our signature flavours of Elderflower and Bay Leaf, amongst others.
We then infuse this gin with Rowan Berries, Hawthorn and Rosehip adding tartness and notes of jam.
The result is a uniquely fragrant gin with a great depth of flavour that celebrates regional flavours.
Serve with lots of ice and your favourite premium tonic water.
Garnish with Strawberry.

Used in 17th century naval warfare, Fire Ships were wooden ships packed with combustibles and gunpowder, set alight and steered whilst ablaze into the enemy fleet.
FireShip 58 is our Navy Strength gin, distilled in small batches in the London Dry method using vapour infusion to extract a complex, full-bodied flavour from our blend of botanicals from around the world.
This is not just a stronger version of our Thunderflower Gin, but an entirely new recipe.
Only pure Dartmoor spring water is added to dilute the spirit to 58% ABV, the strength at which gunpowder will still burn even if soaked in gin.

Join us for a session of exploring our distillery and sampling our spirits.We will take you on a behind-the-scenes tour, where you’ll learn all about our distillation process and the history of our distillery.
After the tour, you’ll have the opportunity to taste our award-winning spirits.
