About Steeplechase Distillery
Distilled furlongs from the Home of Jump Racing, our aim is to produce a range of Spirits in Cheltenham that are synonymous with the town in which they were brought to life. Located in Montpellier in the heart of this beautiful Regency town, our multi-award winning Distillery and our gins are something for Cheltenham to be proud of, paying homage to the history and heritage of Horse Racing.
We take pride in our small scale nature. We use the highest quality neutral grain spirit, hand select the very best botanicals, and utilise traditional methods to produce a range of gins that have uncompromising quality and taste.
Based in the Heart of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, our gins are hand-produced furlongs from the home of Jump Racing.
Amidst a global pandemic in May 2020, I had a discussion with my Mum about how nice it would be to make gin at home for myself. With the opportunity to utilise all I’d learned in my years as a chemistry teacher, as well as all I’d picked up from many wonderful distillery experiences and a deep affection and appreciation for high quality gin.
I applied for and obtained the required licences, purchased my beautiful first 2.5L Copper Column still and did a lot of reading to prepare myself.
Along the way I contemplated what my brand might look like, should I aim to enter the thriving gin market. I considered what flavours I’d encorporate and like my gins to capture, what styles I would attempt, and what images my brand might evoke in applying these.
I began to develop flavour profiles that centred around a key theme, Horse Racing. Drawing on Horse racing’s most historic winners and prestigious races to produce gins that encapsulate the heart and spirit of the sport. Due to my location and affinity for the area, alongside Cheltenham’s rich history as one of the sports most renowned venues, this felt like the ideal brand to launch; I believe that if done right, these gins will flourish, both locally and nationally, with race-goers and gin lovers alike.
After a lot of hard work. sleepless nights, vast amounts of trial and error and the purchase of our second still Aurora, a 20L Copper Column Alembic still, Aurora, STEEPLECHASE DISTILLERY was under starters orders and raring to go.

As a multi award winning distillery known for producing high quality craft spirits with exceptional flavour, who better to help you on the journey to create your own gin?

Your gin will be created by our Master Distiller, who created England’s Best Contemporary Gin 2023 and Best Gin in Europe 2024, with our experience and connections helping you every step of the way.
We can create and produce your gin to your custom requirements with your choice of botanicals, label, bottle, branding and more.
The Process
We want to take the time to understand what you’re setting out to achieve with your product. Rather than choosing botanicals from the start to create your gin, it is essential to design the flavour profile first. Our craft is then to select the key botanicals in the optimum quantities to accomplish that flavour profile. The important factors to consider in your gin are the nose, the front of the palate, the mid-section, depth and finish. Understanding what you want from these, and honing our skills to deliver these for you is what sets our own gins apart from the rest.

The Product
Every bespoke gin requires a full production still run – but with two stills available, we have some flexibility and can distil in 20 or 40 bottle batches (70cl), although exact quantities may vary depending on many factors.
The cost per bottle depends on many factors, including: Strength of the gin, bottle size, shape & design, labels, label design

Signature London Dry Gin

Distilled furlongs from the Home of Jump Racing; this single run, small batch gin combines a unique blend of eleven botanicals with the purest grain spirit to produce a gin with racing at its heart.
Your mouth will taste the rush of earthy Juniper like hooves on the turf, you are carried over the fence by a citrus lift and having crossed the line an enduring spice as you celebrate that winning feeling.
Our signature London Dry has a traditional base, made unique by centring the flavour around Spruce – one of the main constituents of steeplechase fences in racing – to enrich the pine flavour this gin has. We are determined to see this fragrant, smooth, sippable London Dry become a frontrunner in your collection.
The Thoroughbred Navy Strength Gin

Based on our signature London Dry, we’ve bolstered the recipe by enhancing and intensifying the flavour from the Juniper, Spruce and Cardamom to produce an exceptionally smooth Navy Strength gin.
The Thoroughbred is a breed renowned for its horse racing excellence, with an athleticsm that few breeds can match. We’ve produced our Navy Strength gin with this name as we believe it has the characteristics to be at the very top of its field.

Inspired by the First Female Jockey to win a Grade 1 race at Cheltenham Festival, and the horse she boarded for that and a King George VI win in 2020. The incredible duo of Bryony Frost and Frodon are the perfect duo to commemorate this March.

This smooth, yet powerful gin encapsulates one of the greatest race horses in history, Kauto Star. A Juniper front is fleeting, with complexity coming through from the combination of Lavender and Heather with more exotic flavours, Kaffir lime, Pink Peppercorns and Ginger.

Best Mate Blush Gin

Distilled furlongs from the Home of Jump Racing; this single run, small batch, naturally sweetened pink gin encompasses the spirit of the ‘Show off’, Best Mate.
The nation’s favourite horse never finished outside of the top two in any race on his way to three gold cups; this gin has a flair befitting his style of racing.
Combining Raspberries, Hibiscus, and Redcurrants with a traditional dry gin base, this modern take on pink gin is juniper forward, with a freshness of red fruits and a hint of spice.
Our Best Mate Pink gin gets its pink colour and its flavour using the natural infusion of the botanicals. The colour may fade over time due to sunlight. This will not affect the quality or flavour of the gin.

Our spring-summer limited release celebrates and invokes the enduring greatness of Arkle. We’ve created this gin with equal parts fluency and exuberance in style.
An inspired front runner of a gin, like the pillar of racing ‘Himself’.
We’ve taken the crispness of Juniper to give a prominence to the front of the gin, with a fragrant and bittersweet freshness to the palate from a blend of two English Hop varieties – Cascade and First Gold.
A classic combination for ales, giving an almost IPA type character to the gin when paired with fresh citrus peel during distillation.

The Winners of The Gin Guide Awards 2024 have been revealed in a highly anticipated announcement that has once again grabbed the attention of the trade and gin lovers across the world. In particular, the quality and international diversity of the Winners has been eye-catching as the popularity and standard of gins from emerging gin markets has reached new levels alongside a strong showing of Winners from the UK, including Winners from Uruguay, Chile, India, Singapore, Kenya, Tanzania, Croatia, Slovenia and more.
Hundreds of gins from over 35 countries around the world took part in The Gin Guide Awards 2024, in categories based on the most popular styles of gin and their countries of production, as well as Design & Branding and Classic Cocktail categories.
The Winners are selected through a rigorous blind tasting process conducted by an esteemed panel of distinguished gin experts, including distillers, spirits buyers for retailers, authors, and mixologists. Each gin’s appearance, aroma, flavour, mouthfeel, finish and overall quality are assessed to determine the highest scoring gins, based purely on the spirit itself and with no influence from branding, marketing or the country of origin.
Our Steeplechase Signature London Dry Gin has been named Best in Europe 2024 and therefore also Best in England 2024 and Best in Britain 2024!
This means that your gin achieved the highest score out of all entries from Europe.
Alongside this The Thoroughbred Navy Strength Gin was named as a Winner in the High Strength (above 55% ABV) category.
