Sheffield Distillery Est. 2017
Sheffield Distillery is the inspiration of five keen spirit lovers from Sheffield, who, whilst attending the many spirit tastings at The Commercial Inn, decided that they wanted to make spirits properly, by hand, using smell, taste, sight, intuition, knowledge & passion. The foundations proved fruitful when, early on in the journey, the distillery gained permission from the Sheffield Assay Master to use the ‘Assay’ name & the Sheffield Assay Mark, bringing the ‘Mark of Quality’ to the brand.
The Gin & Vodka is made onsite at The Commercial Inn, Chapeltown, in a custom built distillery situated in the pub’s beer garden. The expressions are slow distilled in a hand hammered Copper Pot still, to produce a clean product with an exquisite & unique syrupy mouthfeel.
All our bottles are hand labelled, corked & wax dipped to create an authentic craft finish to the product.
Locksley Distilling Co. Ltd.
Portland Works, 20C-1, Randall St, Sheffield S2 4SJ, Verenigd Koninkrijk
Our story.
Back in January 2013, John Cherry started Locksley Distilling Co. Ltd from the humble beginnings of his parents’ attic. What began as one person in a spare room has grown into a team of eight, operating from a grade 2* listed distillery.
In that short period of time, the world of gin has exploded; however, our range of core products, and other collaborations have always had points of differentiation, and the qualities that made us stand out from our inception continue to set us apart from an increasingly competitive crowd.
OUR MISSION
…is to inspire people to invest in REAL and FAIR products by creating beautiful and delicious beverages. We may never be the biggest distillery, but we will always aspire to be the best.
From day one of Locksley Distilling, our core values have had an emphasis on ethical, environmental, innovative, and quality practices. We have never shouted about our ethos, as we believe every company should be striving towards these sustainable practices.
Strong ethical and environmental values can be seen throughout our procurement of ingredients. For our gins, and liqueurs, we only use base spirits of exceptional quality, made from 100% British sourced wheat. We use organic botanicals wherever possible – not just for their incredible flavour, but to be closer to all that is natural, eliminating chemicals, and pollutants.
We believe in Fair Trade where possible – so growers, harvesters, and farmers are fairly rewarded – minimising the exploitation of land and labour. Through our suppliers, and from our inception, we have close links with the UK’s organic farming movement.
All our products are created, produced, distilled, bottled, and packed at our distillery, with clearly defined labelling to ensure they are not misleading.
Our recyclable glass bottles are sourced from as close to the distillery as possible, minimising shipping impact on the environment.
