Plymouth Gin is a true original. Since 1793 its unique recipe of botanicals has been made to the highest standards in the same distillery in the very heart of the historical city of Plymouth, on England’s South West coast. It’s these factors that have resulted in our particularly English gin becoming as famous and well travelled as those who first tasted it.

The Black Friar’s building dates back to the early 1400s.The most intact part of the distillery is the Refectory Room, a medieval hall with a fine hull-shaped timber roof built in 1431. It’s one of the oldest buildings in Plymouth, and protected as a precious national monument. Not least because it’s now also an important centre of excellence for gin cocktail making.

Sean Harrison, Plymouth Gin Master Distiller and a global ambassador for our premium gin craft, joined Plymouth Gin in 1994 as Assistant Manager, rising to become Master Distiller. With this role comes great responsibility. Namely, becoming keeper of our coveted 200 year old recipe, passed down verbally to every Master Distiller since 1793. As a former Lieutenant of the Royal Navy, we can only assume Sean has undergone military grade interrogation training. He won’t say.

Mix it up in the Refectory Bar and Cocktail Lounge, where modern pours and classic serves sit side by side in our 500-year-old building. Resident bartenders play with inventive new flavour combinations alongside a quartet of classics that showcase the perfect balance of Plymouth Gin: The Gimlet, Pink Gin, Marguerite and The Pennant. We don’t mind if you do.
