Motherwell is a town in the Scottish administrative area of North Lanarkshire and has a population of 31,840. It is also the capital of North Lanarkshire. Motherwell is on the Clyde, with Hamilton on the opposite side, and on South Calder Water, which divides the shelf from Carfin, New Stevenston and Bellshill.
