Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough is a city and unitary authority of the same name in Northeast England, located along the North Sea coast on the River Tees. More than 140,000 people live there. Middlesbrough became a town in 1830 as a result of the industrial expansion of iron production there and the rise of the railways.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WELFARE: HOMELESS CAFE AND HUB
After announcing Susan Gill as a deserving winner of Steel River’s Community Spirit Award, I couldn’t help but feel like I could do more to help the amazing work she does. Susan set up Neighbourhood Welfare Middlesbrough, a cafe designed to provide support for the homeless in Middlesbrough. It offers food, showers, clean clothes etc…basics that we all take for granted every day! I can’t imagine the standard of living of these people, and they are just not being supported enough by the system.
This is why people like Susan are incredible. She not only set up a charity cafe to help fill this need, but she continues to campaign for better services and support for the homeless in Middlesbrough. She spends a lot of time and effort, working hard to try and get the needs of these people noticed and addressed. With all the good work she does, a bottle of gin is certainly a good way to unwind, but it’s not going to help the organisation in their efforts to provide vital services and support to the homeless community in Middlesbrough. So I popped round with a £250 cheque, and I was honestly so impressed by them.
Shorty’s Gins.
Shorty’s Gins Unit 1, Town Hall, Market Pl, Guisborough TS14 6HF, Verenigd Koninkrijk
Shorty’s Gins was established in 2017 by Rachael Conisbee aka Shorty. Nicknamed Shorty by her late father, it was the only name worthy of such a mammoth adventure. Being one of only a handful of female gin producers, Shorty started off making fruit gin liqueurs. And now proudly presents her very own Endeavour Gin. Endeavour gin has received two awards; Gold at the Women’s 2021 Wine & Spirit Awards and Bronze at the 2020 World Gin Awards.
On 1st April 2022 Shorty got the keys to her very own shop and small craft distillery in the recently renovated Guisborough Town Hall. It is a dream come true. Our copper pot still is called Kathleen Frances after Shorty’s mum. And is indeed a beautiful sight to behold.
Endeavour London Dry Gin – 70cl
Endeavour Gin is a double award winning gin from the north of England. It won a BRONZE Award at the World Gin Awards 2020 (in the hardest fought category) and won a GOLD medal at the Women’s Wine and Spirits Awards 2021 in Hong Kong, on the 16th November 2020.
Endeavour Gin is a smooth on the palate London Dry Gin, created with a combination of select botanicals including elderberries, rosehips and hibiscus flowers. Rounded off with a citrus grapefruit finish.
Town Hall Gin 70cl
Guisborough’s Town Hall Gin has been created as an homage to all of the people who fought to bring this iconic grade 2 listed building back to life. Unashamedly juniper forward, the citrus note are tempered so that the flavour is there but not oversweet and all very natural. A subtle blend of hedgerow botanicals, including the magical Rowan (Mountain Ash) berries, makes it a full on yet smooth fruity inspired gin.
Town Hall Gin was launched in April 2022 when we moved into the stunning market town of Guisborough and the newly renovated Town Hall.
Our first foray into the international competitions has been beyond our wildest dreams. On 18th January 2023 it was awarded BRONZE at The World Gin Awards 2023. There were over 1000 entries this year. So quite an amazing achievement.
5/7/2022 – we are now on batch four of Town Hall Gin and batch two of Endeavour Gin.
Two fruity liqueurs on the go and will be ready end of July. We have Summer Fruits and Grapefruit and Pink Peppercorn.
Watch this space for updates! (Jan 2023 batch 9!)
The first ever run of our new gin, Town Hall Gin was done on 7th April 2022! @thecraftdistillingbusiness did a fantastic job of building the still and assisting in the first 60 litre run. Matt Servini, still and ginaficionado said after trying the gin…..
“Wow it’s not just good, it’s amazing. I have tasted over 500 gins and this is right up there at the top with the very best of them.”
This went on sale on Good Friday 15th April 2022. It sold out midday the next day.
