IT STARTED WITH A G&T
It began with three words: What you drinking? Jen replied: gin and tonic. On that cold, wet February evening in Manchester, Seb and Jen talked for hours about their hopes and dreams, about travelling, food, and of course, their mutual love of gin.
Two years later, ready to open their own bar, Jen and Seb discovered small-batch gin distillation which ignited the spark that is now Manchester Gin. From their dining room, Seb and Jen started distilling gin 60 litres at a time. Hoping to make 800 bottles a year, they distilled through the night and bottled, labelled and sold by day.
They went on to make 25,000 bottles from their dining room, which won a Gold at the Spirit Masters for micro-distillery. Now, just three years later, owned 50/50 between Seb and Jen, the Spirit of Manchester Distillery is a state-of-the-art distillery capable of producing a million bottles a year.

Good round citrus notes with a classic Juniper undertone.
PALATE
An initial citrus and juniper taste that develops into a depth of flavour underpinned by Dandelion and Burdock root.

WILD SPIRIT Manchester Gin.
A creamy, savoury gin with complex herbaceous notes. Inspired by walks through the woodlands of Manchester; we’ve taken out the citrus and sweeter notes from our Signature gin and instead used sage, thyme, orris and lemon balm.

Subtle eucalyptus gives way to fresh pine and floral orris.
PALATE
Smooth sage is followed by warming, earthy Dandelion and Burdock.

Aromatic juniper and spice leads into a classic crisp finish.

Vivid juniper and pine is met with fragrant citrus notes.
PALATE
A smooth liquorice start beautifully develops into a burst of lemon and orange.

Thomas Dakin Gin.
Thomas Dakin
Thomas Dakin is a small batch gin of unmistakable character handcrafted using the finest botanicals and inspired by Thomas Dakin, the forefather of quality English gin.
Handcrafted in a baby copper pot still, Thomas Dakin is a traditional juniper-led gin with notes of sweet orange and citrus, enlivened by an infusion of distinctive red cole (horseradish), a root botanical used in refreshing cordials in 18th century northern England, which gives our gin its long, lingering finish.
Thomas Dakin was a young entrepreneur who, at the age of 25, began distilling his gin in the north of England. In 1761, before the outset of the Industrial Revolution, he pioneered the development and refinement of high quality English gin, before anyone else. His inventive and enlightened outlook created a superior quality spirit and an unrivalled gin distilling heritage and legacy. No other gin has such a rich heritage. Thomas Dakin: the forefather of quality English gin
If all goes well, the new distillery could be welcoming its first visitors in Spring 2019.
G&J GREENALL, the Warrington-based drinks giant behind brands such as Opihr, Bloom and Thomas Dakin Gin, have submitted plans to build a new distillery on Lloyd Street in Manchester city centre.
If approved by the city council, the two floor gin distillery will occupy the former Arcon Housing offices and feature a bar and craft shop, a gin academy and visitor experience, and a Thomas Dakin ‘Amiable Club’ – which will function as a bar and ‘intimate live music space’.
David Hume, creator and director of Thomas Dakin Gin, which launched in Manchester 2015, promises that this new gin distillery will offer the chance to celebrate Mr Dakin – generally regarded as ‘the forefather of quality English gin.’
Speaking to Confidential, Hume said: “Manchester has been a real showcase for gin over the last few years. There are a few really good local brands and the Thomas Dakin Distillery experience will enhance that. The bar scene in Manchester is fantastic, so now is the right time.”

THE CREATION OF
DIDSBURY GIN.
Like many of life’s brilliant ideas, this little light bulb moment happened between two best friends in a bar.
Liam and Mark, life-long gin lovers, had a friendship forged over countless nights drinking Gin & Tonics in a number of Didsbury establishments. They’d sampled many varieties from all over the world. Never completely satisfied, they simply couldn’t find what they were looking for – many of the options in the market were uninspiring.
Something was clearly missing. Our two gin connoisseurs craved a fresh, crisp taste. After finding that gap, they set about exploring how to create those vibrant flavours themselves. Following the production of a small batch of gin in Liam’s front room in Didsbury, a brand was born.
THE GIN!
Didsbury Gin is a range of lovingly hand-distilled, 100% natural fruit infused, vegan friendly gins. Our botanically infused original liquid is the base for all our zesty flavoured gin combinations. It’s gin, but not as you know it.
Didsbury Gin is a range of lovingly hand-distilled, 100% natural fruit infused, vegan friendly gins. Our botanically infused original liquid is the base for all our zesty flavoured gin combinations. It’s gin, but not as you know it.
We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we are serious about gin. Specifically, creating fruit-filled gin to meet our incredibly high standards. We use ethically sourced, quality natural ingredients to colour and flavour all of our gins because we are compelled to do ourselves proud. We are the product of our own scrupulous gin-sipping standards.
Our unique blend of botanicals rectified in environmentally friendly copper pot stills give rise to an exceptional citrus take on a London Dry, making our gin perfect for sipping neat, a classic G&T or in any of your favourite cocktails.
We’ve come a long way from the home still in our co-founder’s living room, where we refused to be limited by circumstance or expectation. Anything is possible, if you remain naturally curious.

Our Story
It started with an idea and grew from there.
How It Began
Back in early 2018 we wondered how hard it could be to create our own gin.
So we bought a small copper alembic still from Portugal and started distilling from home in the kitchen. Technically illegal without a license from HMRC!
After dozens of experiments, we came up with a dry gin that we thought other people might like as well.
Popcorn Sutton, our copper alembic still from Portugal.
A Plan Comes Together
So we now have a gin we want to sell. How hard can it be to (legally) open a distillery?
Turns out much harder than we thought.
Cue over a year of research, visits to trade shows and speaking to lots of potential suppliers.
There’s a lot of permissions we need. Limited company, VAT registered, multiple HMRC licenses, planning permission, premises license to retail booze, personal license to sell booze, hygiene inspection by the council, trading standards compliance visit. And that’s not the full list!
Putting The Distillery Together
We had the funds to start a spirits brand and get somebody else to make it, or do it the hard way and actually open a distillery.
So we did something really stupid and decided to open our own distillery. Tameside’s first ever distillery it turns out.
The next challenge was to find premises that were suitable. Clean, good access, not too expensive. Easier said than done. After much searching, we found the ideal premises in July 2019.
Now what? We’ve never worked in a distillery before, so we didn’t know exactly what equipment we needed. More research, a ton of money spent and some long days (and nights). Bit by bit, we started turning an empty industrial unit into a fully working distillery.
We almost forgot about the finished product. We needed ingredients, bottles, stoppers, capsules, labels, barcodes and boxes.
Fast forward to the end of November 2019 and we are good to go, with our very first product release: Tameside Gin.
Eric & Rhiannon, the production stills used to create our products.
Beyond Gin
We are not afraid to experiment. Walter White meets Willy Wonka.
Our experiments (and actual releases) also include rum, vodka and liqueurs. Plus other concoctions we don’t know what to call!
Not all of our creations see the light of day as an actual release. We hope you enjoy the ones that do.

Etihad Stadium Man City
Manchester City is today announcing that it has submitted a planning application to Manchester City Council for the development of a best-in-class fan experience and year-round entertainment and leisure destination at the Etihad Stadium.
This follows the conclusion of the Club’s consultation held between Tuesday 28 February and Sunday 26 March, where fans and the local community were invited to share their feedback on concepts and designs.
Having reviewed all of the feedback submitted via the consultation questionnaire, the Club is delighted to confirm that fans were in favour of the concepts and proposals presented.
Proposals include several connected all-weather facilities, fully integrated into the stadium, centred around an expanded North Stand with one larger, single upper tier above the existing lower tier, increasing capacity to over 60,000. Above the upper tier, a sky bar with views overlooking the pitch has been introduced, together with a stadium roof walk experience.
