Linlithgow Distillery Fine Quality Gin
Our Story The inspiration
After spending 33 years in Information Technology and a health scare we found ourselves at a bit of a loose end, we were having a blue sky discussion one night when the subject came round to what will we do with our lives? With help from the gin cocktails we were drinking, Alyson said “Why don’t we make our own?” After all, we both have always loved the idea of having our own distillery.
Now Ross, a lifetime lover of malt whisky and bourbon had always enjoyed a nice gin and in the last few years had started to drink it as his preferred long drink. So the idea was born. Could we really pull this off?
The vision
The vision So the discussion very quickly came round to how can we be different?
There has been an influx of new gins on the market in the last 5 years and whilst most gins use a combination of similar botanicals, we needed to come up with something to make LinGin stand out.
How will LinGin be different? Our local botanicals. This is what makes LinGin unique and that the recipe has been honed by our local tasters to give a truly community developed experience.
‘Crafted with the spirit of Linlithgow’
Our first bottling
With the help of our Tasters we developed the recipe of LinGin and did our first bottling on the 15th January 2018. Our aim is simple, to make quality Gins using the best sourced botanicals and some locally foraged ones to make truly special Gins from Linlithgow – LinGin® and the Four Marys®.
As a family business, we wanted our Gins to have a local ‘family’ influence. So we recruited over 100 people from the local area to help develop LinGin. Our tasting panel have been instrumental in influencing our products and have continued to act as a tasting panel in refining our Four Marys recipes.
LinGin and the Four Marys are now available from our online shop and from outlets throughout the UK. We are expanding our list of stockists daily, so next time you are in a bar or restaurant, ask for a LinGin or Four Marys and if they don’t have it tell them about us!
Our stills
We have two stills. Both are high tech and fully progammable and give us the ability to reclaim all the heads and tails from each distillation.
Our 100L still is called Gleann Iucha (Gaelic for Linlithgow). Our 500L Still is called Scotty after Montgomery Scott who will be born in Linlithgow in the year 2222. If you follow Star Trek you will know who he is.
LinGin London Dry Gin 70cl
Regular price £39.00
LinGin is a classic London Dry style gin – using a maceration technique and direct one-shot distillation with the botanicals present in the mix at all times during the distillation pro-cess. No other flavourings, colourings or sweeteners (either natural or synthetic) have been added either during or after the distillation process. LinGin is bottled at 43% Abv.
The flavour profile on the nose is clean and fresh with an overall juniper-prominent, sweet citrus and herby aroma. When sipped neat, there is an overwhelming sense of smoothness to the gin, without any burning effect on the throat. At this point, the citrus is less prominent, instead the full herb and meadowsweet complement comes through and gives way to a warm, peppery finish. When tonic is added, the sweet citrus comes back to the fore and segues into an earthy, herby taste as the meadowsweet comes to the fore.
The final warm peppery notes are also accompanied by a slight spiciness but again there should be no burn on the throat. An overall classic London Dry gin with a complex flavour profile and a smooth, very drinkable finish. The entire experience should evoke memories of a stroll along the canal bank or round the loch on a warm summer evening and leave you looking for more.
We suggest that LinGin is drunk neat over ice but if a long drink is preferred, then we recommend 2 great G&T serves:
• If you prefer your gin citrussy, then add 3 parts Fever-tree tonic (either full fat or light) to one part LinGin and garnish with a quarter slice of orange.
• If you prefer your gin herby, then add 3 parts Fever-tree Mediterranean tonic to one part LinGin and garnish with a sprig of fresh rosemary.
However you choose to drink your LinGin, we hope you enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed making it.
LinGin Mediterranean
Regular price £36.00
We still had a part pallet of our original launch bottle and were wondering what to do with them. Never liking to throw things out, Ross came up with the idea of doing a limited edition Gin inspired by our Son-in-law who uses the bottle as an Olive-oil bottle.
So, with that in mind Alyson developed a beautifully smooth Gin made with our core botanicals plus Olive, Rosemary and Grapefruit.
There are only 732 bottles. Each bottle is hand labelled and numbered. The first 30 bottles will be signed by Alyson.
To serve; 50ml in a large glass with ice, an Olive and/or Rosemary.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
LinGin Berry
Regular price £36.00
This beautiful unsweetened pink gin was originally our Mum’s Gin from 2021 and sits at 43% as part of our premium range.
Classic juniper, coriander, angelica and orris are then paired with meadowsweet, orange, fresh blackcurrants from Craigie’s Fruit Farm.
The only thing added post-distillation is concentrated blackcurrant juice to add colour. A full-bodied fruit gin, best served with a premium standard tonic and garnished with any type of berries. If you prefer it sweeter then pair with cream soda – it’s delicious!!!
LinGin Cask Aged #5 – Benrinnes (LE)
Regular price £49.00
Our fifth Cask comes from Speyside Distillery – Benrinnes. We believe the cask was originally used for Bourbon.
We casked our LinGin London Dry in October 2021 at the start of the second lockdown and left it to mature for 17 months.
The result is a beautifully smooth Gin with the wonderful caramel, toffee and vanilla flavours coming from the cask. This is a limited bottling of only 125.
LinGin Navy Strength 70cl
Regular price £43.00
LinGin Navy strength gin. Sitting at 57% Abv this is an ultra-smooth gin which can be drunk neat with a few drops of water or else served as a full G&T and garnished with pink grapefruit.
Using some of our wonderful “secret” LinGin botanicals, the addition of grapefruit and lavender rockets this gin to a new level.
This gin, although designed for a speciality market, will feature on our permanent production schedule in the future.
LinGin Cask Aged #3 – Oloroso (LE)
Regular price £59.00
Although this is our third Cask, it is one of our latest bottlings and has come after Cask #4.
An ex Oloroso Sherry Cask. We matured our LinGin London Dry for 18 months to give this gloriously dark coloured and incredibly smooth Gin.
This is a Cracker! It takes on the incredible flavours from the Oloroso Sherry and marries them together perfectly with our Dry Gin to create a truly incredible spirit.
Enjoyed perfectly by itself like a Sherry or with some ice or even in an Old Fashioned cocktail. Makes a rather nice and unique G&T as well.
LinGin Colours
Although the Summer of 2020 was great weather wise, the emerging impact of Covid was getting ever closer to home for all of us. With Friends and Family succumbing to the Virus, most of us started to feel the real impact of Covid.
After all the issues caused by Covid, the Distillery team wanted to bring a bit of colour back into everyday life. While dreaming of a beach hioliday, our Head Dsitiller, Ross, wanted to do something fun. So the idea of creating a range for the home bar that would make great G&T’s and be a great base for cocktails was born.
The result? Let us bring the colours, scents and flavours of the beach to your door!
Four highly coloured bottles and four individual flavours – sip the flavours individually or mix and match them to create 15 different flavour combinations. The four primary flavours have been designed to mix and match with each other perfectly.
Meet the LinGin Colours family:
- Yellow – Yuzu (garnish with pink grapefruit)
- Green – Lime (garnish with fresh lime)
- Pink – Raspberry (garnish with fresh raspberries)
- Blue – Coconut (garnish with lime or pineapple if you want some tropical sunshine)
All four flavours are designed to be served over ice with a standard tonic – we use Fever-Tree Premium Tonic at the Distillery – and simple garnishes which make these drinks the perfect party G&Ts.
These gins all sit at 40% abv and have been distilled at Linlithgow Distillery using the same base recipe. A scaled down version of the LinGin recipe has been used (8 out of the 12 botanicals) and each colour then infused with the flavour of choice after distillation before being bottled by hand. As with every product that is produced by the Linlithgow Distillery team, it is lovingly hand-crafted, bottled and labelled by hand.
A unique idea of mix and match gins which will make any party go with a swing! The first batch is limited to only 500 of each flavour so grab one now before they are gone!

Our Bottle
Since we started production in January 2018, we have always strived to use our town’s rich history and iconic buildings in our branding. Our bottle was a stock bottle from France and it’s shape reflected the shapes of both Linlithgow Palace and St Michael’s Church spire. The spire has become synonymous with Linlithgow over the years and is seen as a huge visitor attraction for the town.
In early 2020 the distillery team realised that to secure the future of the business going forward and integrate our future plans for distilling whisky, we needed to come up with our own bottle that was even more tied in to our town’s iconic buildings.
Ross initially came up with a few sketches of ideas and we passed these over to our glass partners at Vetroelite. Their design team helped us to refine our designs and after 3 different 3D printed samples, we settled on our final design. The bottle features elements which are key to 5 of our most iconic buildings/sites in Linlithgow:
- Linlithgow Palace – represented by the bottle shape and the horizontal ribbing on the bottle which signifies layers of stone and brick.
- St Michael’s spire – represented by the bottle shape and the impression of the Crown of Thorns spire when viewing the bottle from the top down. Also represented in our logo which is embossed on to the bottom of the bottle.
- St Magdalene’s Distillery – the last whisky distillery in Linlithgow which closed its doors in 1983 and was developed into apartments, represented by the cupola top to the bottle.
- The Maltings – the original malting house for St Magdalene’s distillery and latterly a brewery before being developed into apartments and is represented by the cupola top to the bottle.
- Not technically a building, but Linlithgow Loch is represented by the jade green colour of the bottle, which has been used throughout our branding since day 1.
With our distillery name embossed into the shoulder of the bottle and our logo embossed on the base, this bottle truly belongs to Linlithgow.
May 2022
We are over the moon to have been recognised by the Industry for our bottle design. To have recognition like this truly inspires us to keep developing the brand.
