Our Story

Gordon and Vanessa met at the Badachro Inn; a charming establishment tucked away in the remote hamlet on the North-west coast of the Scottish Highlands, the real Wester Ross. They married less than twelve weeks later and set out on the path toward their current venture.

Nestled in the hamlet of Badachro, overlooking Badachro Bay and reaching out towards Skye and the Outer Hebrides, Badachro Distillery offers small-batch, artisan whisky, gin and vodka from the Scottish Highlands.

At the heart of Badachro Distillery is a passion for infusing the spirit of its’ remote natural surroundings with unique, memorable flavours.

The small-batch, artisan whisky, gin and vodka remain connected to the purity, clarity, and wonder of the Highlands, offering a fresh, natural and authentic taste of Badachro.

Uniquely handcrafted in a family-owned distillery, Badachro whisky, gin, and vodka reflects the ethos of independent, artisanal produce. Including the foraging of local botanicals, hand-labelling and recording the batch and bottle number. The final seal of approval is marked with the distiller’s stamped initials.

Badachro’s infamous copper still, ‘Delilah’, (now having a well deserved rest as our museum piece in the shop) has now been replaced by copper pot stills ‘Ashleign’, ‘Scarlett’ and ‘DeDe’. They effortlessly marry the subtle flavours and scents of local botanicals creating delicious spirits.

They are blended with a carefully selected combination of traditional botanicals, herbs and spices to create a delicious, unique and authentic taste of the Highlands.

Hand beaten in Portugal, all our stills are mature and well versed in the field of evaporation and condensation.

In the Highland tradition, Delilah was named after the daughter of her first master distiller’s eldest daughter (as with boats, it’s considered unwise to change a still’s name!) We followed on with the tradition – come visit and we tell you all about the origins of our stills names!

First, they travelled the world. Through Gordon’s advertising work, they experienced the excitement and vibrancy of city life in the Middle East, London, and Edinburgh. But, as their family grew, they were ready to realise their dream of moving home to the mountains, clean waters and star-studded night sky of Badachro.

Fuelled by a shared passion for living a simpler, more peaceful way of life, they set-up their dream-home and thriving B&B, Aird Hill, where they settled on building a Highland-inspired, sustainable distilling business.

Gordon soon completed his formal training in distilling, gaining valuable insight and work experience at a distillery in Perthshire. With their hospitality and advertising backgrounds, combined with Vanessa’s previous work in horticulture and study of botanicals, Badachro Distillery was born.

The Badachro distillery in Gairloch, north-west Scotland, is the home of Bad na h-Achlaise single malt whisky. As the first spirit released from the distillery, made with a small copper pot still, this Highland gin uses locally sourced botanicals to produce a delicate, herbal expression. Offering notes of myrtle, rosehip, elderflower, liquorice and coriander on the palate, the finish remains with sweet tones of lavender and citrus.
