Dan is a world-famous comic character from a 1937 book. Because Dundee is known for its art and print industries, Dan’s comedic relevance gave rise to his monument, which can now be found on the city street.
Aside from Dan, there is also Dawg, his pet animal, and Minnie the Mix.
V&A Museum
The V&A Museum has a noteworthy architecture proving Dundee’s significance in the creative industries. It is a museum solely made for design and arts and is located in the Riverside Esplanade of Dundee.
This distinctive museum was designed by Kengo Kuma and opened in September 2018. It also hosts design workshops accessible for both adults and kids.

The town developed into a burgh in the Middle Ages, and grew rapidly in the 19th century. This is largely thanks to the jute industry. These, along with some other major industries, gave Dundee its nickname as the city of “jute, jam and journalism”. In mid-2018, the estimated population of the City of Dundee was 149,000 residents. The highest number of inhabitants was 182,000 during the 1971 census.
Today the city is promoted as ‘One City, Many Discoveries’, in honor of Dundee’s history with scientific activities and the Discovery, Robert Falcon Scott’s Antarctic discovery ship, which was built in Dundee and now anchored in the city’s harbour. The 1980s saw the arrival of the biomedical and technology industries, and the city now accounts for 10% of the UK’s digital entertainment industry. Dundee has two universities – the University of Dundee and the University of Abertay Dundee. A GBP 1,000,000,000 masterplan to restructure and connect the Waterfront with the city center was launched in 2001 and is expected to be completed over 30 years.

Introducing The Dundee Gin Company
Ah yes, there’s quite a few Scottish gin brands around these days. Which if you’re a gin enthusiast, is good news.
Being The Dundee Gin Company you could say we know a thing or two about what makes a great gin.
For those of you who have yet to pledge allegiance to any particular brand (or alcoholic drink for that matter), we’d love to introduce ourselves. Perhaps you first heard of us on Amazon? Or maybe you received a generous gin gift from a friend or loved one.
Let’s take a brief tour together now and celebrate our wins along the way.
A lot has happened since The Dundee Gin Co., our first trademark, was established in 2017. As you’d expect, building relationships with bars, restaurants and suppliers takes time.
Looking up our press mentions to add to our ‘About‘ page, you can see how momentum has been building in recent years.
That’s testament to the hard work our team puts in, week in week out.
As cliched as the phrase award-winning has become, we can honestly say that Dundee Gin Company IS now an award-winning company. To be able to say that is rather nice!
First and foremost we care about the taste of our gin.
If you haven’t tried it for yourself yet, may we recommend our Classic Dry Gin or if you’re feeling adventurous try the gift pack of gin miniatures to discover your new favourite.
DUNDEE CLASSIC DRY GIN
This quadruple distilled premium gin is so smooth that, even at its high 46% ABV, it is easily drunk neat. All of the botanicals in this Scottish gin, including the juniper come from the botanic gardens in Dundee.
An extremely aromatic and complex gin, taste notes of exotic botanicals such as Ylang Ylang and Strawberry Guava give way to a subtle spicy kick with cardamom and juniper notes. On the nose, a complex aroma of lemongrass comes through most prominently with the juniper.
Suggested Mixer: Mediterranean Tonic and a slice of grapefruit
Cocktail Suggestion: Classic Gin Martini
Style: A robust dry gin
Volume: 70cl
ABV: 46%
NAVY STRENGTH DRY GIN
Even with such a high ABV, this gin is incredibly smooth due to the lengthy distillation process helping to filter out any impurities.
NAVY STRENGTH DRY GIN – DUNDEE FC LIMITED EDITION
This limited special edition celebrates our partnership with our city’s oldest football club as their official gin partner for the 2023/4 season.
Even with such a high ABV, this gin is incredibly smooth due to the lengthy distillation process helping to filter out any impurities.
This combined with our locally sourced and freshly picked botanicals from the University of Dundee Botanic Garden helps to create a wonderfully crisp flavour profile.
The recipe was originally created for the RAF Benevolent Fund to mark the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War, they kindly flew in a botanical called a Diddle- Dee Berry through Leuchars air base to us to use in the recipe. We loved it so much we had to keep it for ourselves!
With a flavour profile slightly different to our more aromatic, citrus led Dundee Dry Gin. Our navy strength gin has a spicy, peppery quality on both the nose and taste. This gin is full of flavour and packs a punch for the more adventurous gin aficionados with strong flavours of cardamom and juniper coming through with ginger.
Suggested Mixer: Tonic Water
Suggested Cocktail: Negroni
Style: Navy Strength
Volume: 70cl
ABV: 57%
HONEY OLD TOM DRY GIN
Our Honey Old Tom Gin is the ultimate expression of luxury and quality.
After Dundee’s twinning with Dubai in 2004 we wanted to create a product that reflects the joining of these two cities. Featuring local fresh ginger, lime leaves and lemongrass from The University of Dundee Botanic Garden combined with exotic spices, flowers and Royal Iranian Saffron from the exclusive shopping malls of Dubai. We also sourced honey from both the Himalayas and Yemen.
This is a complex gin that deserves to be tried neat first to fully experience the best local ingredients that these two wonderful cities, working in tandem together can produce. Fun fact, while Dubai may be the richest city in the world today, the richest square mile in 19th century Europe was actually in a burgh of Dundee called Broughty Ferry!
