In conclusion, Darnley’s Fine Quality Gin Nature Distilled is a truly exceptional gin that embodies the essence of the natural world in every bottle. THE DARNLEY’S STORY
Nature Distilled
ONLY THE MOST NATURAL INGREDIENTS
Darnley’s Gin is made using only natural ingredients; the best botanicals, the freshest
Scottish water and pure spirit. We believe that by respecting the ingredients gifted
to us by nature, and not using colours, sweeteners or artificial flavourings, we can
create gin that brings a nuanced and authentic taste to your glass.
A COTTAGE GIN
The derelict farm cottage next to our whisky distillery in the village of Kingsbarns was the perfect space to realise our dream of distilling gin in Fife, where our family have lived and worked for centuries.
In the gardens surrounding Darnley’s Gin Cottage, we grow as many botanicals as the Scottish weather allows but more exotic ingredients, like cinnamon and grains of paradise, need warmer climates so are sourced from growers around the world that we’ve come to know and trust. We continue to grow, forage and source in our endless botanical exploration.
OUR STILL, DOROTHY
Darnley’s Gin is made in a 350l copper pot still that fits perfectly in our small cottage. She is named Dorothy after two of our regular visitors and we have a tour guide called Dot so it honours one of our team too!
DISTILLING DARNLEY’S
Each bottle of Darnley’s Gin begins with the highest quality British grown grain spirit and the finest botanical ingredients.
Our Head Distiller, Scott, makes Darnley’s Gin in our copper pot still in the London Dry style to produce a gin with uncompromising quality and flavour.
We pride ourselves on making a gin that’s perfectly natural, which is why we make London Dry Gin. This means that no additional flavours or sugars are added after distillation, only purified water to reduce our gin to its bottling strength. Our carefully selected combination of botanicals are steeped in the base spirit, allowing the essential oils and flavours to be released before distillation.
ROOTED IN FIFE
Our story is rooted in Fife, Scotland where our family have lived and worked for centuries and it is here that our gin making journey begins. In partnership with local experts we forage for some of our botanicals, like the elderflower that grows wild in the grounds of Wemyss Castle, our family’s ancestral home.
There may be easier ways to make gin but for us it’s only natural.

Darnley’s Original Gin (Various Sizes)
Regular price£33.00
The Inspiration
Our recipe for Darnley’s Original was inspired by elderflower growing wild around the Wemyss family estate in Scotland.
After picking copious amounts to dry out and then test in the stills, we knew we wanted to create a light, floral, citrus flavoured gin in the London Dry Style which honours our distillers past.
Try neat, or the classic G&T is perfect for this gin.
Botanicals: Juniper, coriander seeds, angelica root, elderflower, lemon peel, orris root
ABV 40%
Notes
Nose Pine needles, juniper, elderflower, cloudy lemonade, floral notes
Taste Grapefruit, juniper followed by a mellow spice
Finish Long and dry, with a twist of floral and fruit characters from the elderflower.
Recycling

Navy Strength Spiced Gin (Various Sizes)
Sale price£32.99Regular price£38.00
Our Navy Strength edition of our award-winning Spiced Gin was inspired by the illustrious Royal Navy career of our ancestor Sir Rosslyn Wemyss, who commanded ships around the world and rose to the rank of Admiral of the Fleet. During his time at sea, ships’ officers still enjoyed a daily ration of gin which had to pass a gunpowder test to prove it was over 57% alcohol and therefore Navy Strength.
Using the same botanicals as Darnley’s Spiced Gin, we have added more juniper to our recipe and increased the proof to bring you a bold Navy Strength gin with intense warming spice flavour.
ABV 57.1%
Notes
Nose Clementine, nutmeg, spruce, cinnamon, freshly grated black pepper
Taste Ginger, citrus with a sweet and fresh character
Finish Ginger, cinnamon, rich fruit, milled pepper and orange rind mixes well with the spice
Coastal Haar – Cottage Series No.4 – Limited Edition (50cl)
Regular price£31.00
Inspired by the East Neuk of Fife
The nine botanicals at the heart of this London Dry Gin are a mixture of locally grown and foraged botanicals from along the east coast of Scotland to develop a gin that is a rare expression of the heart and soul of the coastline of our beloved East Neuk of Fife. Sea buckthorn, sugar kelp and marigold petals makes this gin reminiscent of a soft sea breeze, with salty pine upfront followed by tropical mango and pineapple notes to create a light, balanced gin. Serve with premium tonic water and an orange wedge garnish.
ABV 42%
Notes
Nose Sea breeze, floral pineapple and mango
Palate Salty pine upfront, mango and orange with notes of pear drop sweets
Finish Marmalade, sweet pineapple and pine
Botanicals
Juniper, coriander seed, angelica, orris root, sea buckthorn, lemon balm, marigold petals, sugar kelp and orange peel.
A word from our distiller
“I tried to capture the feeling of a Summers day by creating a gin using local sea buckthorn which has subtle tropical fruit notes supported by our cottage garden grown lemon balm and marigold petals. For me, the best part about creating this expression was working with Jayson Byles at East Neuk Seaweed. Jayson sustainably forages sugar kelp from the Fife coastline with the purpose of using it for wild cooking. We were lucky enough to use his harvest to infuse our gin with using a vapour basket, creating that salty breeze we described earlier.”
About the Cottage Series
The Cottage Series tells a story of the people, the landscape and botanicals found in the area of Fife where we handcraft Darnley’s Gin.
Smoke and Zest Limited Release 70cl
Regular price£40.00
The botanicals at the heart of this London Dry Gin are rowan berries foraged in the surrounding undergrowth and locally-grown barley in our Kingsbarns Distillery whisky, smoked over pine wood chips. Infused with another five botanicals, including coriander from the cottage garden, this limited edition gin illuminates the fruity complexities of locally sourced produce awash with a smoky element to finish.
Our distiller enlisted the help of his family who owned a commercial smoker, to steep and slowly smoke the malted Kingsbarns barely over pine wood chips. The introduction of Lapsang Souchong tea, also traditionally smoked over pine wood, brings an exotic second smoky botanical intro the recipe with cool menthol notes.
ABV 42.5%
Notes
Nose Sweet berry notes combine with orange and lemon as the delicate pine scented smoke slowly reveals itself
Palate A strong citrus presence of orange and grapefruit with a malty depth. A light beach bonfire smoke is delivered on top
Finish A long finish beginning with a fruity complexity with citrus at the fore before the smoke slowly increases in intensity
Botanicals
Hero Fife grown barley smoked over pine woodchips, locally foraged rowan berries
Secondary Juniper, orange peel, lapsang souchong, coriander seed, angelica root
