Curio: Curious by nature and Curio by name, the genre-redefining range from Cornwall includes age-old ingredients such as rock samphire and cardamom to create tipples that are curiously attractive and flavoursome with every sip.

Curio is inspired by fragrant botanicals and natural ingredients that reflect our culture, heritage and locality.

We, William and Rubina Tyler-Street, became curious about setting up a bespoke spirits brand in 2012. With production based in Lizard Peninsula, deep in west Cornwall. Through years of hard work and dedication, the journey to creating our delicious craft spirits led to us celebrating our first products take to the optics in December 2014.

We strive to create spirituous beverages to keep on satisfying the Curios consumer.

Our signature Wild Coast Gin, (formerly Rock Samphire Gin), came first, then the Peruvian Cocoa Nib Vodka and then Cardamom vodka.

Since 2014, our adventurous nature has resulted in the creation of a range of spiced flavoured rums and more recently hard seltzer.

We only use pure natural spring water from the Cornish Spring Water Company for our distillations and we work with local suppliers whenever possible. Excellent quality is what we strive for because you deserve the best.

Over the years, we’ve won quite a few awards, recognised, regionally, nationally, and internationally. With the first ones being, BBC Good Food Champions in 2015, to being nominated as Gin Producer in the UK by the International Wine and Spirits Competition in 2017, to a more recently two Gold Awards for Curio Hard Seltzer in the Taste of The West Awards.

It appears that Curio were not the first to appreciate the taste and medicinal properties of blueberries and other botanicals.

”Blueberries contain a plant compound called anthocyanin. This gives blueberries both their blue colour and many of their health benefits. Blueberries can help heart health, bone strength, skin health, blood pressure, diabetes management, cancer prevention, and mental health.

We live and work in Cornwall with nature all around us, from stunning undulating moors to craggy cliffs and powder white sandy beaches we love Cornwall it’s our inspiration, therefore we know we need to look after it. We would love to say our entire operation is Carbon Neutral and completely green but unfortunately, we are not there yet. What we can say is that we are aware of our obligations as a business and are working hard to ensure that we make the right decisions as we move forward with the environment front of our mind wherever possible.

From day one we have always used local ingredients wherever and whenever possible. Even today we use herbs grown and hand-picked from our garden which we use as some of the key botanicals for our gins. This is just as much about great flavour as it is about low food miles and is a perfect example of using nature right outside our back door.

Glass is always seen as a very green way to package products as it is easily recyclable. The question we asked ourselves was that as a supplier of glass bottled products, could we go further and look into the options of using recycled glass in our bottles.

It took a bit of number crunching as its not a cheap option but we were able to make the changes and since 2018 our Gin bottles have been made from recycled glass. We have also managed to change manufacturer from France to a UK based glassmaker to reduce production miles on the bottles travel time from manufacture to bottling. A fact we are very proud of as we are the first Gin distiller in Cornwall to achieve this and one of only a handful in the UK.

one might not imagine samphire as the most obvious lead botanical in a Gin but by gum, they’ve pulled it off! Firstly this is a great Gin in its own right, with depth, complex flavour profile and a wonderfully resonant long finish. The samphire just adds a very delicate layer of saline lift on the nose and palate, a faintly salty tang. A really cleverly conceived and crafted Gin, Bravo!
