It can be hard to define, but everyone has it. A mix of anticipation, surprise, courage. For some it’s the fire in their belly and the wind hitting their face, the curiosity in choosing a path … or going off it. For others it’s the freedom to let the mind wander, explore, daydream.

The inspiration behind FINDRA started when I got into mountain biking. The women I biked with had a real adventurous spirit about them and were very supportive and encouraging, but the clothing available at the time just let us down. There was a lack of quality design, fabric, fit, style, and sustainability.
After 20+ years working in the fashion industry dealing with high-end luxury brands and natural materials including Merino wool, I believed I could come up with something that better represented the spirit of cycling and the community of women participating in that activity.
Although FINDRA has evolved from focusing solely on biking clothing to offering a wide range of stylish, versatile and sustainable outdoor clothing to women, the core values that the brand was founded on back in 2013 remain true today. It’s not about how far you go or how quickly you get there, it’s about giving it a go.

INGREDIENTS
35ml Ben Lomond Blood Orange & Pink Grapefruit Gin
10ml (2 tsp) light honey
10ml (2 tsp) vanilla syrup
50ml pressed apple juice
Good squeeze of fresh lemon juice
METHOD
Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice, shake for 10 seconds, then strain into a rocks glass. Alternatively, warm all ingredients in a pan and serve warm.

My deep rooted love for food started from an early age by being inspired by my Mum’s Malaysian cooking at home, then hosting my own dinner parties. And I got so much inspiration and joy from these, I realised that it could become my profession too.
I started working in various kitchens across Glasgow, then moved on to doing street food events where there’s still that social, more interactive element I was lucky to work with some of the best female head chefs in Glasgow who have influenced my entire journey. I opened my first restaurant in 2017 and my latest adventure Gaga, has been thriving since its doors opened at the end of 2021.
Part of being brave and part of being adventurous is trying new things. And for me, food can open doors and open up conversations you’ve never had before.

INGREDIENTS
6 shell on tiger prawns
2 tbsp tamarind pulp concentrate
1 tsp diced garlic
3 tbsp dark soy
4 tbsp sugar
1tsp salt
Lime juice to taste
Garnish with crispy fried garlic
RECIPE
1. Begin by mixing together, dark soy, sugar, salt and lime juice and set aside
2. Put 2 tbsp oil in a wok, heat it up till hot Add in the garlic and fry for a few seconds
3. Then add prawns and fry on each side for a minute
4. Now add in the tamarind marinade and allow to fry off till it’s sticky and coating the prawns
5. Serve immediately garnished with crispy fried garlic and lime wedges

Although I started my blog back in 2016, through the pandemic, I realised my hobby could soon develop into a living. I started posting recipes to help people and engage with them during a time when human contact was limited. And the success of Just Jess Food has seen it grow into a community of likeminded people, trying and experimenting with new foods and drinks – as well as tips for travel and lifestyle culture.

I’ve always been deeply passionate about interiors, food, and nature, and I spent my childhood running around between my father’s restaurants in Gothenburg, Sweden where I grew up, but also the countryside of southern France where I spent every summer with my aunt. I think it’s this background that makes me very connected to nature and I feel inspired by being outdoors.
Three years ago, my husband and I bought an 1860 house overlooking the sea, and we wanted to start a new adventure by renovating and restyling this property. Our interior style is inspired by my multicultural background and the great outdoors, and I’m harnessing the memories of Italian tiles, French antiques and Scandinavian modernism that are slowly merging to create a perfect home for us.
For me, adventure means the small moments in your life, just making a cocktail or reading a book in front of the fire or buying an antique table. It’s not about adrenaline, but creating special moments in your everyday. Just those small, very specific but also very beautiful seconds that can mean something truly special, and can be an adventure in itself.

I guess I’ve always loved adventures, being outdoors, that kind of stuff. We did it all the time as kids … we even learned to swim in the sea as we had no local pool. I guess we were “wild swimmers” before wild swimming was a thing.
